Registered Massage Therapist
I have been a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) since 2006, and have been part of the HealthView team for almost as long. I studied Massage Therapy at Canadian Therapeutic College here in Burlington (now Trillium College). There, I learned the hands on techniques of massage, as well as anatomy, physiology, pathology, and much more. I also learned the joy of helping people. I never think that any problem is too big or too small. Whether it is a treatment based around relaxation and helping to manage stress and general muscle tension from normal activities of daily living to an acute or chronic injury from sports or a motor vehicle accident, I find joy in being able to give people the tools to help someone live a more balanced and hopefully pain-free lifestyle.
I had always known that I wanted to work within the health care profession (although, I also knew that I could not deal with bodily fluids), and as I gained more exposure to massage therapy the more I realizes that it was a perfect fit for my goals and outlook. My personal goal is to do most things in moderation. I love my work but I also know that I need to keep that in balance with everything else that I do. I try to be active (mostly so I can eat chocolate cake). I limit my personal time on the computer, and try to make as much time as I can for friends and family. Overall I believe that a balanced life adds to how we feel physically. This is why I do massage therapy. I try to help add a little balance into people’s lives by decreasing muscle pain, stiffness, tension, and increasing range of motion, circulation, and relaxation. It’s easy to get carried away and spend too much time on the computer without a break and then have a stiff back afterwards. It’s also easy to get really involved in our sports and forget to warm-up or cool-down. Massage therapy helps us become more aware and able listen to our bodies, and even helps us on those “rare” occasions we forget to.
Taking an individualized and functional approach to health and wellness, we strive to seek out the root of any problem and not just deal with the pain.
A gentle and controlled manual technique is used to restore motion and alignment to restricted or “fixated“ joints. This increases joint mobility, reduces nerve irritation and allows your body to heal naturally.
Provides long term pain relief and tissue healing. By increasing blood flow to the region, relaxing tight muscles and releasing the body’s natural painkillers (opiates and endorphins), acupuncture has the ability to treat a wide variety of illnesses.
